Subject:'Program Expired' on W880i using version v0.5.9

Hi all.
TMJ looks great, and worked superbly for about half a day until it started giving the message 'program expired' as soon as i connect to my GPS device.
I saw an earlier thread but it didn't appear to solve my problem.

Help!

Hi,

This is a bit strange - v0.5.9 shouldn't expire until August. Could you try the following:
- Uninstall TMJ
- Check that the time, date and timezone settings are correct on the phone.
- Re-download and install TMJ again.

It might be that the phone received a random or slightly corrupted timestamp from the GPS device, hopefully its a one-off!

Cheers,
Stephen

Hi again.
Thanks for the reply.
Tried this, still did not work. This time it came up with the message the first time i connected to the GPS, whereas before, it allowed me to connect a couple of times.
Could it possibly be a dodgy GPS? Is there anyway to view the timestamp from the GPS unit to check?

How strange!??

Yes, it might be worth checking the GPS. If you set the GPS/Log Options before you connect to the device it should save a little bit of the raw data stream to the memory card before it times out.

Set the Log Type to 'NMEA Text', the New Log to 'At Startup' and select a folder in which to store the log (I set mine to e:/TMJLogs - you'll need to manually create this folder on the memory card first).

If you could paste some of the log file here that might be useful. Also, which SE version did you download? I might have to recompile a version with a later expiry date if all else fails...

Bingo! - your GPS thinks that its the 26th of February 2023!

You could try fully resetting the GPS by removing the battery for a couple of seconds. If you then switch it on and leave it somewhere with a good view of the sky (preferably outside) for a few minutes to get a satellite fix (if its like mine then a light will probably flash or change colour when its got a fix), before starting TMJ.

Any luck?

By the way, you might try the SE JP7 version, I think that would suit the W880 slightly better (though the differences are very minor, to be honest).

Aha, sorted!
It would appear that I was connecting to the GPS unit before it had a satellite fix.
Once I had left it outside with a clear view of the sky, and connected after a few minutes, it worked ok.
What threw me was that the first time I connected, I was inside, and the first time I recieved the 'Program Expired' message, I was outside and assumed it had a fix.
Guess I should have paid attention to the status lights on the GPS! Dunno where the manual is though.... :-)

Strange that it should be sending a date in 2023 when it hasnt got a lock. Its an Emtac CRUXII/BTGPS in case anyone else runs into this problem..

I'll give the SE JP7 version a try too.

Thanks for all your help.

No worries - glad its sorted.

Every so often my own GPS goes a bit weird too, when it tends to think that its 1995 again, which at least doesn't trigger the Program Expired message!!

Cheers,
Stephen
